When you are watching your new puppy tumble around on the floor, it can be difficult to picture such a playful creature falling ill or growing old. However, accidents happen and time flies, and it is important to be prepared for medical emergencies.
Healthy Paws Pet Insurance is designed to protect dog and cat owners from having to base medical decisions for their pets on money. The ability to provide an animal with necessary medical care shouldn’t depend on financials.
Insurance options like Healthy Paws offer a budget-friendly possibility that comes with no lifetime coverage limits, and the claims process is both quick and easy.
About Healthy Paws
The insurance company has been around since 2009, and they offer low-cost insurance coverage for dog and cat owners. The co-founders, Steve Siadek and Rob Jackson crossed paths thanks to both being involved in animal rescue, and they connected over their mutual desire to help pets all over the country.
Today, Healthy Paws is both an insurance company and an animal rescue foundation, helping family pets across the United States get the medical care they need, and also making a difference for homeless pets hoping to be adopted.
Healthy Paws is an active partner of one of the world’s largest insurance brokers – Aon Corporation, and they have their insurance policies co-signed by the top insurance company Chubb Group.
Available Insurance Policies
When you opt for an insurance policy from Healthy Paws, you get accident and illness insurance without lifetime limits and coverage caps. This means that, unlike many other insurance companies for pets, Healthy Paws offer the same coverage for an older dog as they do for a younger animal (you will, however, be insuring your senior pet with the highest deductible and the lowest reimbursement percentage).
Deductible ; Reimbursement
While not the most customizable pet insurance out there – Healthy Paws do offer a few options when it comes to your preferred deductible and the reimbursement percentage. The deductible is the percentage of the total vet bill that you always pay yourself, and that will not be reimbursed when the insurance kicks in.
The options offered by Healthy Paws are deductibles of $100, $250, and $500. The choice you make affects the overall insurance coverage, as well as the total cost of your monthly insurance plan.
When it comes to reimbursement percentages, Healthy Paws offer three alternatives: 70%, 80%, and 90%. The highest reimbursement percentage will get you the most money back once filing a claim, but it is also the insurance policy that will cost you the most. Here it is up to you to decide what you value more – a higher financial coverage or a lower cost.
Illnesses ; Conditions Coverage
You always pay for office fees and basic exams out of pocket which won’t be refunded by Healthy Paws, and after that, you can file an insurance claim for any illnesses or conditions that are covered by their policy. Below are a few examples of what Healthy Paws cover:
- Emergency Care
- Blood Tests
- Chronic Conditions
There are, of course, terms and conditions that apply, and it is best to check directly with the company to verify whether a specific condition or illness is covered.
Some pre-existing conditions are not covered by Healthy Paws, which is standard for most of the bigger insurance companies, both in the United States and worldwide. There are also a few other exclusions to be aware of, and we have listed a few examples here:
- Breeding-Related Conditions
- Spaying and Neutering
- Preventive Care
- Dental Care
- Cosmetic Procedures
Healthy Paws is a budget-friendly insurance option that offers coverage for dogs and cats. Their policies do not cover dental care, which is important to note, nor do you get reimbursed for office visits and exams, but they make up for this with their low premiums.
They are known for their advocacy for homeless pets and over $1,371,914 has been donated to shelters and animal rescue organizations by their animal rescue foundation.
The company offers reliable customer service, somewhat customizable insurance premiums and you can easily submit a claim by uploading photos to your iPhone application or via laptop.
