Murders are always disturbing, but some are even worse requiring the police to work for years to solve them. Unfortunately, in several cases, the authorities have come out to be unsuccessful. These murders have had created a lot of terror, horror, and panic amongst the public. 

From Jack the Ripper to Tupac Shakur, each murder was creepy, strange, and without a conclusion. So let’s take a look into some unsolved high-profile murders that still pose a question mark.

Jack the Ripper

Jack the Ripper was amongst the biggest names related to unsolved high-profile murders. He prowled the streets of East End looking for prostitutes and terrorizing the area. His name “Jack the Ripper” was coined when he had killed and mutilated at least five women. The public started to panic when in 1888, the bodies began piling up not far away from each other. 

The news of the second body was announced by The Morning Post at the time and termed the murder “too horrific”. It is said that the body had been mutilated so brutally that it couldn’t be described. Jack the Ripper was someone who was very skilled at his job. 

He mostly used a knife and this made the authorities assume that he might be a doctor or butcher. Although the authorities tried finding the face behind the murders but could not do so due to a lack of forensic technology and other advanced methods. 

Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G

The rap world of the late 90s was shocked to its core when famous rappers, Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G were gunned down only six months apart. Even today, the concerned authorities are not able to put the criminals behind one of the most high-profile unsolved murders. 

At the time of their death, Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G were having a severe rivalry with their record labels. Both rappers were top artists for their respective record labels. 

The year 1996 saw Tupac Shakur being killed in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas. This was a time when Tupac’s record label, Death Row was feuding with its competitor, Bad Boy. Six months later, Bad Boy’s Christopher Wallace better known as Notorious B.I.G was killed in a similar fashion. 

Prior to the killing, Tupac and B.I.G were close friends. However, when Tupac was sent to jail on rape charges, B.I.G rose interms of popularity and the friendship grew distant. To this day, the investigators have not been able to solve the murders party due to uncooperative witnesses. According to many, both rappers are alive and faked their death

Elizabeth Short was found naked feet from the sidewalk by a mother and her child. She was clearly cut half from the waist and did not have a single drop of blood on her. She was dubbed the “Black Dahlia” due to her preference for black clothing. She was just 22 and her case eventually became one of the most high-profile murders. 

Short had arrived in California in pursuit of fame and was a Massachusetts native. Before being dumped, her body was bled dry. She was professionally dissected with one breast cut off. It is unknown as to what led to her grisly fate but several people have claimed the high-profile crime. 

The FBI along with other authorities conducted a nationwide investigation but found that none of the confessors was speaking the truth. As a result, the case went unsolved. 

The Zodiac Killer

The Zodiac Killer was perhaps the most interesting amongst all. Unlike other murderers who kept away from the spotlight, he liked it and left the police some clues and cryptic notes while leaving a trail of death behind him as well. 

The Zodiac Killer had killed atleast five people. According to the letters he sent to the police, he claimed that there were several more victims but that could not be confirmed. His rampage began in 1968 when he shot two teenagers in a parking lot leading to death. Then, several months later, he repeated the same act but this time one survived. That is when the police began receiving letters from someone anonymous claiming the slayings. 

The letters were basically coded messages explaining the motives of the killer along with his identity. The Zodiac Killer had claimed that he enjoyed killing people simply because it was too much fun. The authorities did not crack the code, revealing his name. Meanwhile, the Zodiac Killer stabbed two more people in late September. One victim survived while the other died. 

JonBenet Ramsey’s Killing

JonBenet Ramsey’s murder news spread like wildfire across the country upon being found dead in her parent’s Colorado home. The beauty queen was just 6-years old at the time, with many speculating that her parents were involved in the murder. She was a beauty pageant winner and had been discovered strangled with duct tape placed on her mouth and throat. 

JonBenet’s mother told the police that she woke up early that morning to find her daughter missing. Upon finding a 3-page ransom note demanding $118,000, her mother called the police. However, hours later, JonBenet’s father told the police that he had discovered her body in the basement. Her death was ruled as a homicide. As a result, the Ramseys immediately fell under the cloud of suspicion but the parents denied killing their daughter.

The above-mentioned unsolved high-profile murders continue to amaze the world. Although thousands of murders take place each year but none can surpass the ones outlined above. While some cases remain unsolved and remain open to this date, others were closed due to lack of evidence. These murders also found their way into Hollywood as several movies were made on the cases. However, only time can tell whether they lead the authorities to a proper end.
