The Wizard of Oz 3D Premiere Kicks off the Film’s 75th Anniversary

On Sunday, September 15, 2013, The Wizard of Oz premiered for the first time ever in IMAX 3D at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. It was a star-studded event as celebrities came to celebrate this iconic film’s 75th Anniversary.

Special highlights included the appearance of Ruth Duccini, one of the two remaining munchkins from the film, as well as Danielle Wade, who plays Dorothy in the new musical! Other stars at the gala included Molly Ringwald, Mario Lopez (and his adorable daughter who dressed as Dorothy), Drew Carey, and Rico Rodriguez, who was excited to interview Ruth. Stars stopped along the red carpet to talk about their favorite memories of the film and their excitement to see it in 3D! Additionally, actors in full costume brought everyone’s favorite Oz characters to life as the crowd made its way toward the theater.

Attendees were treated to an array of great The Wizard of Oz-themed treats and merchandise, including a Candy Station courtesy of Dylan’s Candy Bar and Incr-Edible Cupcakes; a look at the upcoming The Wizard of Oz nail polish collection from Julep; an Oz Emporium from Café Press; The Wizard of Oz by Jersey Jack Pinball; Wizard of Oz-themed craft kits for children by Darice; and an Oz art wall produced by the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity.

The wax creation of Dorothy from Madame Tussauds™ Hollywood was also unveiled, bringing this iconic star and character back to life for this grand event!

Fans also got to see acapella group Pentatonix perform a melody of famous songs from The Wizard of Oz!
