How to Spend a Weekend in Orillia, Ontario

Known as the Sunshine City, there’s no better place for holidaymakers in Canada than Orillia. It’s a relatively short hop from New York City and boasts endless entertainment options for both outdoorsy holidaymakers and city slickers alike. If you’ve got a weekend free and want to fill it with fun then this is our guide to spending that weekend in Orillia.

Stop Off At Weber’s

If you’re driving from the Toronto direction then a stop at Weber’s is essential. It’s situated right alongside Highway 11 in a particularly pretty spot. The menu is super affordable with classic Canadian diner fare making up the majority of the offerings. The poutine is particularly popular and their charcoal barbecued burgers have had diners literally queueing up since 1963. If you don’t mind a bit of a queue then we strongly recommend ordering more than you think you need, as every dish we’ve ever had has been truly delicious.

Stay at the Casino Rama Resort

Whilst the Casino Rama, as the name suggests, is most famous for its casino, there’s plenty else to like about this stunning resort. It’s been providing gorgeous all-suite accommodation for 24 years and boasts several restaurants as well as immediate access to the ski slopes. If you want to check out what the casino has to offer then it’s not a bad idea to get a little practice in beforehand. Learning your way around a table game like poker means that you can walk into the casino with confidence. Thankfully that’s easy with so many of the best poker sites Ontario being easy for beginners to navigate and possible to access from your hotel room. Once you’ve checked out the casino, it’s time to hit the slopes.

Ski at Mount Saint Louis

The hotel is perfectly situated for fans of skiing, snowboarding, or even tobogganing. Mount Saint Louis is a winter playground with green runs for beginners, right up to some tricky black and red routes for the more experienced. It’s one of the largest ski resorts in the whole of Ontario, so you could easily fill a whole week with activities here. However, we’ve got plenty more to discover of Orillia’s best tourist spots, so save that après ski for a moment and get ready for more adventure.

Hike Around Black River Wilderness Park

Orillia has hiking for people of all abilities, but one of the prettiest spots to hike is Black River Wilderness Park. The park is situated around a series of lakes, meaning there’s potential for kayaking, too, but sometimes the best way to view the water is from the land. There are well-marked walking trails that are easily accessible and will take you around each of the lakes. Look out for wading birds in the water and deer on the land. They can be elusive during the day, but if you’re taking a sunrise or sunset walk then you’re likely to see plenty of wildlife. If you really fall in love with it here then it’s even possible to camp.
