Ok, so it’s probably a safe bet to say that every woman in America dressed as Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz at least once for Halloween. All the characters from this beloved movie are favorites of trick or treaters everywhere, and what little girl doesn’t love the timeless Dorothy?
Well, it’s too late for this Halloween, but how would you like to wear Dorothy’s actual dress to your favorite costume party? Yes, the real one from the movie. In 2013, the dress was to be sold at auction and all they expected it to take to own was $500,000, according to celebrity auctioneer Darren Julien. He said that’s what he expected the white puff-sleeve blouse and blue gingham pinafore to bring when it went on the auction block. It’s a lot of money for sure, but out of all the dresses made for production, it is the only version actually seen in the film and the only complete original to survive.
The iconic outfit was on display at London’s Stafford Hotel before it traveled to Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills, where it went on the auction block Novon ember 9 and 10.
So, if you had a spare $500,000 lying around and you wanted to blow your friends away on Halloween 2013, maybe a trip to Beverly Hills was in order.
